Last Gasp of Summer

Thought for the day:  Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow.  [Douglas Pagels]

No telling what kind of pot you might find at the end of that rainbow, but if you drink enough water, you'll be plenty happy to find the kind in that picture.

In the meantime, let's enjoy the slide, shall we? Especially today.

Labor Day. A day to relax, and let things slide.

If work were such a wonderful thing, surely the rich would have kept it all to themselves.  [Lane Kirkland]

According to the calendar, summer doesn't officially end for another three weeks, but for all intense purposes, most of us consider Labor Day weekend to be our last hurrah. Our last desperate effort to squeeze in another round of fun in the sun. You can be as active ... or inactive... as you'd like.

There's lots of things you could do today. But whatever it is, I hope you take a little time to ...

escape from the usual grind.

You could take a nice relaxing bubble bath,

take a nap in the great outdoors,

or enjoy a good ol' barbecue.

    Don't forget the watermelon!

You could spend the day at the beach,

                                                               or lying in the grass.

You can run, drive, golf, swim, fish, sightsee, or just curl up with a good book. Do whatever the heck it is you want to do today. But don't forget...

summer will be over ... and the chairs will be empty... before ya know it.

And so, I raise a cup o' kindness to you, (You can fill it with whatever you'd like)

and wish you all a wonderful Labor Day.

At the end of this day, I hope you can look back on it and say... It was truly golden.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. And each other.

  1. No 'Labor Day' over here, but autumn very much in the air. May I have a slice of that watermelon!

  3. Maybe you'll find a leprechaun at the end of your rainbow!!

That baby in the bubble bath is too funny.

Happy Labor day to you to :-)

  4. Sus, this post has actually set the tenor to the rest of my day. I feel like I'm always DRIVEN to distraction, mentally, and though I know taking a real rest is important, most of the time, I can't always get there!

Thank you for posting this. I really mean that. I hope you have a beautiful Labor Day and I love your new banner. Point of fact, I look forward to how it will change over the next several months with the holidays. :)

You take care of yourself, too.

  5. The end of summer is always sad, but it happens every year. I suppose winter time has good things too. Oh and the picture of the dog peeing on the girl made me laugh.

  7. Oh, I'll be sitting at my desk as I usually do when I can but I had my fun Saturday playing skyrim. I may, however, raise a glass later :)

  8. Cro- Autumn doesn't feel like it's in the air yet here, either. And sure, you can have some of that watermelon. Baby slobber makes it taste all that much sweeter.

    Geo- Thanks.

Gentleman's Lady- That'd be cool. I've never had a pet leprechaun before...

Suze- I hope you truly have a relaxing day today. It's good for the spirit. Glad ya like the new header picture. I have entirely too much fun playing with my "yams".

Jessica- The dog peeing on the girl really cracked me up, too. Around here, summer heat usually overstays its welcome, so we're really looking forward to some cooler days. It'll probably be a while before we see them, though.

    Linda- Right back atcha.

Marcy- I have no idea what skyrim is, but I hope you had a lot of fun with it.

Karen- It sounds like you're gonna have a wonderful day. I'm not a huge fan of shopping, but doing ANYTHING with a friend is always fun, and tonight's plan to sing at the retirement center sounds like my cuppa tea.

  11. Pixel Peeper- It's been a terrific weekend, thanks. I hope yours has been, too.

Juli- Everybody should take a nap in a hammock at least once.

  15. I'll take some watermelon minus the baby slobber, thank you very much. LOL Actually, I had my own, so you can give this to someone else.

The day was pretty much a work day for me. Sunday was a fun relaxing day, though. Went to the movies with my hubby, our daughter and her husband.

  16. I hope you had a great one, Susan. Hard to believe that just like that! we're back to seriousness. But I really hope it cools down and we have a lingering Fall...

  17. Annmarie- I'm sure you could, and I'll betcha your kids would be more than happy to "help" you do all those things. And more.

Skippy- I thought those nails looked pretty cool, too, but they aren't attached to the end of my fingers. Found the pic on morguefile. I'm glad you had a relaxing day with Oscar, kiddo. 12:34

Kara- Oooh, that doesn't just sound poetical... it sounds like FUN!

MaryAnn- Very good on spending some time inside an air conditioned movie theater. Especially if you had a candy bar while you were there. (I'm pretty sure candy calories don't count when you eat them in a theater.)

Laura- I'm all for cooler temperatures and a lingering fall, but no need to get all serious, ya know. Laughing at the idiocy in the world doesn't make it disappear, but it does make it more bearable.

  18. Gasp, gasp, gasp! I am trying to squeeze out those last days of summer but the weather won't cooperate. I didn't give up though. I just got my big umbrella and sat out on my son's wet deck and ate my hot dog - until the first crack of thunder.

  19. Arleen- That'a too funny. I can just imagine you sitting outside in the rain. Determined, aren't ya?
