A Perfect Blendship

Thought for the day:  Friends are the bacon bits in the salad bowl of life.

Last weekend was all about hanging out with family and playing with the grandchildren, and believe me, it was great. This weekend is gonna be about hanging out with a terrific couple we haven't seen for a while, and it's gonna be great, too. Bottom line? I'm gonna do another fly-by post and then disappear from the Internet until next Friday.

Friends are people who know the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you forget the words.

Well, to tell the truth, we probably won't be doing a lot of singing. But we will be making a good bit of noise. We always do.We, um,  laugh. A lot. The kind of laughing that makes your sides hurt. We may also drink a tad too much. (But just a tad.) Laugh some more. Swap lies, and trade tales. Play Scrabble and other games until we can't see straight. Make new memories. And laugh some more.

Kati and I might even do a little...  shopping.

Heck, who knows? Maybe the four of us will chill in the hot tub for a while.

Everyone hears what you say.
Friends listen to what you say.
Best friends listen to what you don't say.

Not only does smarty pants Cliff know all about us, he remembers every story and experience we've ever shared with him, and knows precisely when to bring them up again for maximum effect. Which naturally begets more laughter.

And more laughter. (Okay, I admit it. The booze may up the hilarity a bit, too.)

Yep, for the next few days, all we have to do is enjoy ourselves, and try to keep the animals out of the Scrabble box.

I hope y'all enjoy your Labor Day weekend. I know we will.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. And each other.

    1. Yes, absolutely! And friends NEVER run out of things to talk about. (Which is why we got so little sleep...)

  3. Dear Susan, enjoy your stay with your friends. I totally agree: friends are the salt in the soup, and to laugh one(!) of the greatest joys in life.

    1. Thanks. We had a fantastic time. The conversation occasionally got a bit salty, but the laughter soup was seasoned just right.

  6. A perfectly blended post (as always), seasoned with wonderful words of wisdom. Even the chicks in the hot tub look disturbingly intriguing.

  7. What a great ode to friends and friendship. the bacon quote and 4 naked chicks are somewhat morbid (for animal lovers) but reflect how even the ugly side of friendship can be hilarious.

  8. What better way to spend a weekend. We'll see you when you've recovered.

  9. Hi Susan .. sounds a great week ahead with so much laughter you'll come back with aching sides. Love the photos too ... hot tubs won't be the same! Don't splash too much .. and win at that scrabble - if you can access the box ...

    Happy weekend - Hilary

  10. Please please please may I borrow the 4 naked chicks in a hot tub photo?? I can email that to several people who will bust a gut laughing!
Have a wonderful time on your break, take extra Scrabble games and set them up to play right across the table, we used to do that, with three boards from one end of the big dining table to the other.

  26. I'm so freaked out by the chickens in the hot tub that I can't remember what the rest of the post was about. Okay. I just sneaked another look. It's about more booze creating more laughter. I seldom drink. I guess that's why I have no sense of humor. My mother always told me that.

    Love,

The realization I was just forced to face was that my current physique bears a huge resemblance to those birds. I will now forced to retreat and contemplate this fact with several beers.

  42. Boy oh boy... what fun and laughs 2 couples of long friendship, can have. A perfect way to close the summer.

I don't remember ever seeing the Lucy/Ethel friendship video.
My friend, Marilyn, and I made a "dumb" video of us making energy bars. At the end we sang friendship. Oh what guts we had, to do that one. We call our vids the Two Old Broads.

    1. Yes, it was a perfect way to wind the summer down.

That song was in my head while I was writing the post, and I remember Lucy and Ethel singing it. I could hardly believe it when I found the video on Youtube. (Isn't the Internet amaaaaazing???)

I remember that post! Nothing wrong with being an old broad, but two together is unbeatable.
