Free Stuff is... Priceless

Thought for the day:  When the window of opportunity opens, sometimes ya just gotta climb through.

[source]
The temperatures are a little chilly, but that's okay. I'm washing the windows, anyway, and fixing to throw 'em wide open so y'all can come on in. So to speak.

See that spiffy Goodreads Book Giveaway widget in the sidebar? The one that invites you to enter to win a FREE! FREE! FREE! autographed copy of Hot Flashes and Cold Lemonade? Yeah, that one.

[source]
No strenuous activity required, either. No climbing out on a ledge or up the side of a building, no aerobic exercise and heavy breathing. None of that. All ya have to do is... enter. Easy peasy.

WHOOSH! The window is open now, and guess what? No matter how cold it gets, I'm not gonna close it until midnight of December 11, when five... that's right... FIVE!... winners will be selected by the fine folks at Goodreads.  Hey! You could win a FREE! FREE! FREE! Christmas or I love you present to give away. Or, what the heck... keep it for yourself. But ya can't win, if you don't enter. So go ahead. Make my day. Enter. (Open to the United States, Canada, the UK, and Australia)

Talking about FREE! FREE! FREE! stuff, two lovely ladies...  Julie Flanders and Lexa Cain... will be hosting a bloghop next month, with lots of free stuff up for grabs. The object of the hop? Its title kinda says it all, but the official blurb elaborates: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Beaches of Hawaii? Slopes of Vail? Cancun, Paris, or Rome? Where is your dream destination?

Simple enough, right? And you have plenty of time to think about it, so no excuses. Besides, with as busy as things get to be this time of year, it'll be kinda nice to write a post for this one ahead of time, dontcha think? If you're interested, you can sign up to participate at either of their blogs. You can also see the ever-growing list of prizes there, too.

Yep, free stuff is definitely priceless, but when things do have a cost, it's a good idea to pay attention to where ya put the darned price tag. Otherwise, the results can be downright hilarious:

Who amassed those pictures, I don't know. Smarticus received them from a friend, who received them from a friend, who... you get the idea. Anyhow, they were new to me, so I thought they might be new to you, too. They're, um... priceless, dontcha think?

Until next time, take care of yourselves. And each other.

When I read that my first thought was of a thief about to rob a house. My second thought was the homeowner greeting the unwanted visitor while holding a .357.

Yeah, totally off kilter from the true meaning of the saying but my brain has never been quite right.

    1. Understandable. After all, when a thief robs a house, most of the time he comes intruder window.

  2. I love that not only are you offering a large window of opportunity - but that it is a clean window. Wow.
And those prices are a hoot. I suspect bored sales clerks may have had as much part in them as carelessness or serendipity. Whichever, I am grateful.

    1. Oh heck yeah, I keep my virtual windows sparkling clean. No cat nose smears on them or anything.

I can imagine a couple sales clerks laughing themselves silly as they placed those price tags.

  3. Dear Susan,
hahaha - there was someone with a special humor tagging all the DVDs :-)
I bought your book for my kindle and love it VERY much, thank you. As I have friends who speak English like Queen Mum, I might participate in your kind offer - and getting a signature and the book in paper is even better than on kindle. The photo of the window cleaner is priceless! Britta

    1. For sure, somebody with a sense of humor had a lot of fun placing those price tags!

Thank YOU; I'm glad to hear you've been enjoying my book.

    Very funny.

  5. Ya know, SUSAN, many times my goose has been cooked, but NEVER my dog.

Oh, sheesh! Those were so funny! I'm just sitting here all alone, waiting for midnight so I can post my latest 'Battle Of The Bands' installment and then go the F to bed! I saw your blog bit appear in my Dashboard, came here and just found myself laughing out loud and telling me to "Shush!" so I don't wake up everyone else in the house.

That was some funny sh--- "Shut yo' mouth!"

    1. Well, I'm very glad to hear those inappropriately placed price tags kept you laughing and entertained while you were waiting to publish you post, but you DO know you can pre-schedule your posts, dontcha? Ya know, just pre-set the date and time, and fuhgettabout it. I always set mine to publish at 12:34 AM, but I'm already in the sack by the time it goes live.

      Delete
    2. Nope. I have tried it countless times and it NEVER publishes. There's a Blogspot bug that will not allow me pre-set automatic posting. FarAwayEyes has the SAME bug, because it never works for her either.

Arlee Bird, who "automatic" posts most of his stuffs, has confirmed for me that I am doing everything right. The system just refuses to obey my scheduling and the draft will just sit in my Dashboard until I manually publish it.

  7. Some very careful thought was put into those strategically placed price tags. They were contrived by someone who has much more than a Wal-Mart mentality......hilarious!

The last time I climbed through a window of opportunity, it set off a burglar alarm.......

(I killed my previous comment because it had too many typos)

HA! Gotta watch out for those red flags and alarms.

  9. Hi Susan .. life is crazy at times and people do do funny things - but I'll have some of the fun in life ... those labels are just crazy - I wonder if the sales staff realised?!

Crazy to read .. cheers Hilary

    1. Yeah, those labels are pretty crazy, and my money's on the tags being placed that way intentionally. Then again, if it's all purely accidental, that'd make it even funnier. It'd be a great story line for an episode of a sit com.

      Cheers!

  10. Waterproof butt closure, the only sensible kind... :-)) !!!

  11. Butt closures, but are they restickable? or do you have to carry a "butt" lad with you? These are all very funny. I just have to pass them on.

    1. Hmmm, I reckon it all depends on how "wet" they get. Butt... who nose?

No windows open here, either. It's downright chilly outside, and we have a fire burning in the fireplace.
