Staying Warm

Thought for the day:  ♪ ♫ Oh the weather outside can bite me. My muscles ache, despite me. I don't have a happy glow. Winter blows, winter blows, winter blows...♪♫

Looky there. We actually had a little bit of snow in our neck of Georgia last weekend. It didn't last long, and very little of it stuck to the ground, which was supersaturated from all the rain we've had. Mostly, a dusting of it stuck to rooftops and vehicles.

But a promise is a promise. I told Joanne that if it snowed here, I'd make a snowman and post a picture of it on my blog. So here he... it... is. All two and a half inches of him. Frosty he ain't.

It was sixty degrees here the other day, and is gonna hit near seventy today, so no, it isn't really all that frosty here, but it has been brutally cold and snowy in some parts of the country... and world. Then again, this isn't a real post, eitherbecause I'll be doing that next Monday for a blogfest. (It might not be too late for YOU to participate, too. Just click on that badge in the sidebar to find out...)

This is more of a quickie keeping-my-place-because-it's-Friday kinda howdy. I hope some of these pictures of critters trying to keep warm put a smile on your face.

Smart dogs!

Smart cats, too!

How to get the most mileage out of a single sunbeam.

Radiator, I love you, I love you, I love you!

Hey! There's more than enough room in here for both of us.

This heat lamp is MINE, all MINE!

So, how cold is it? It's so cold...

*  Hitchhikers have been holding up pictures of a thumb.
* A recorded message at the  911 center says to call back in the spring.
* I saw a squirrel throwing himself at an electric fence.
* My friend chipped a tooth on her soup.
* The old lady across the street couldn't believe how badly her teeth were chattering on Tuesday night. They were sitting in a glass at the time.
* Chickens have been running into KFC, and begging to be thrown into the deep fryer.
* Starbucks started selling coffee on a stick.

Have a super toasty weekend. Hope to see y'all on Monday!

Until next time, take care of yourselves. And each other.

  1. Hi Susan - gosh that 3rd photo made feel very very cold! Wonderful story line - and that warm ray of sunshine .. I've done that with my chair .. following the sunbeam across the room. Sensible animals is all I can say ... your little snowman is just fine - he looks a little bog-eyed .. but fine otherwise. Now the cat in the tank - honestly! Then the radiator - can't be that comfortable surely.

Great shots .. have a lovely weekend .. and I'm not ready for cold coffee just yet! Cheers Hilary

    1. Our cats go out of their way to lie in whatever rays of sunshine make their way in through our windows. For two reasons: it's a toasty place to take a nap, and when they're awake, they can get some exercise by jumping and swatting at any dust motes they can stir up.

You have a super weekend, too. Cheers!

  2. Yep. Laughing. But only in between the wiping-the-sweat-off-my-glasses.
The fan is turned up to Blackhawk speed...
    Good night!

    1. Yeah, it's much easier to laugh at frigid weather in the middle of summer, and at hot temperatures in the midst of winter. :)

No... good morning!!! (And have a happy weekend.)

  3. Clever animals. It looks like a choreography! :-) Thanks.

    Greetings from London.

    1. Yeah, animals can do a pretty fancy dance when it comes to finding a warm place to take a nap. Matter of fact, so can some people. :)

      Greetings back atcha.

  5. I'll trade my Tennessee snow for your Georgia snow. There's still ice lingering around here, despite a warmup in temperatures. Actually I'm "way up north", only five miles from the Kentucky border (almost by the North Pole, huh?).

It's amazing how cats (and dogs, apparently) are able to make good use of ANY little patch of sunshine. I love all of the photos.

Also, a private note (nobody will see it here...*smile*)
MANY thanks for your interest in my poetry book. I admittedly don't have a copy of this new edition (yet) so I hope it's not too-shabby. I added numerous new poems that weren't in the first edition (a few years ago).
I haven't yet had time to figure out the format for an ebook, but I will.....in probably 50 years....
The format for poetry is more challenging than for a "regular" book.

And I appreciate your confidence in my (upcoming) memoirs. It's rather difficult to write about oneself, but I have enough adventures to fill two books. If I don't get sued by all the people still living, I'll be okay.

Sorry for the long comment. I hope I haven't overstayed my welcome.

    1. Overstay your welcome? Pbbbbbt! Ain't gonna happen! We've actually had salespeople come to the house who got to talking with us, and long story short, they stayed and shot a few games of pool with us. So if a salesman is welcomed, you should know that YOU are certainly welcome. (Want me to rack 'em now...?) I always enjoy your comments.

I haven't gotten into it too deeply, because I'm just about finished reading another book, but from what I saw, the formatting looks good. (I'll let ya know if I come across any glitches in it.) And it looks like I may have the honor of being the first to post a review for it on Amazon :)

You memoirs? I'm telling ya, write it, and LOTS of people will want to read it. If anybody sues, you'll be so rich from book sales, it won't be a problem...

      Happy weekend, and stay warm!

    2. Susan, for some strange reason your latest blog post ("Staying Warm") didn't show up on my Blogger Dashboard and I almost missed it.

I'm wondering if this happened to anyone else. You usually get far more comments.

    3. Hmmm, that could explain why I've been as lonely as the Maytag repairman with this post. Not bad enough we're shedding followers like dried leaves in the fall, but now we're falling off of the dashboard, too? Crud.

  6. Cats sure do like sunlight. Mine are always at the window. I miss snow. I only see it once in a while when traveling.

    1. Our cats like to sit on the windowsill looking out, but they really like to get on there so they can scoot the curtain aside enough to create a patch of sunshine on our bed so they can take a toasty nap.

I can't say that I miss snow. Maybe that first magical snowfall, but I sure don't miss those weeks and weeks on end of white stuff.

  7. Our back garden door faces south and both our dogs love lying in the evening sun that comes through I winter.

    1. I think dogs and cats must have an internal sunbeam seeker. If our cats don't find one easily, they push the curtain aside to create one.

  8. What a cute little snowman Susan :-) .. I'm with the cat on the radiator... I would lay on one and hug it too if it was a little more comfortable. I know I'm a little more picky than a cat :-)

I hope it stays warm where you are, the next 2 months here are usually our worst. I'm hoping for the best this year ♡

  9. It's so cold it can freeze the balls off a brass monkey.
Meaning? There's a lot of sad faces at the Monkey House.

  11. It's below freezing here and about to dump a foot or two of snow, most likely overnight. I could use some warmth.

It's so cold I can't even get into a heated argument with the wife.

    1. BRRRRR. That's too cold for me. It's supposed to be seventy degrees tomorrow. My kinda winter!

HA! An argument might not be a bad way to warm things up... especially during the "make up" part afterwards.
