Dog Days

Thought for the day: Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. [Groucho Marx]

A flashlight could chase some of that dark away...

Hi-ya. My brain is giving me the silent treatment today, so I'm going to go with an easy breezy post. Nothing too strenuous or thought-provoking. After all, this is Labor Day weekend... which means NO LABOR, people!

Besides, who wants to work... or think... when it's so darned hot.

The dog days, they call 'em. That's a rather nice name for that long hot sultry period parts of the Northern hemisphere swelter through from early June to early September. Theoretically, that means they should be drawing to an end soon, but this is Georgia. Hot weather likes to linger.

So in honor of dog days, I'm going to share some of my favorite dog pics and cartoons. (Sorry, Joanne! I'll have something extra special just for YOU at the end...)

Life is never boring when you have pets.

Sniffing, licking and sleeping are exhausting.

Even dogs have grumpy days.

Poor baby's having a hard time recognizing his pal's scent...

Talk about man's best friend!

Well, technically, maybe he's right...?

Geez, and we always tried to blame it on the dog... I reckon turn-about's fair play.

Sometimes, it's just too darned HOT to trot around for no good reason.

Melloooooooow.

Even more mellooooow.

Sorry, Rover. You're gonna have to settle for a hug.

Doggone it, that's enough pics! I'm getting a little carried away here. (I hope some of them gave you a little lift.)

And now... (Insert drum roll, please) JUST for the lovely Joanne, who is not a critter-lover.

                                                                         Ready?

This kinda beast more to your liking, kiddo? They should have your pool cleaned in no time...

You know, I really love our cats, but after going through so many of my dog pictures, I'm thinking it'd be kinda nice to have a dog again. There's something magical about the bonds we can form with dogs, so maybe we should get a magical dog... something like a chocolate labracadabradour...

Until next time, take care of yourselves. And each other.

Today, I will live in the moment. Unless it's unpleasant, in which case, I'll eat a cupcake.

  1. Just when I was ready to say "That was a dog-gone good post", your very last picture rudely robbed my brilliant idea.
So I'll just say thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable carefree post. And have a great Labor Day Weekend!

    2. Hi-ya. Sometimes, "carefree" is exactly what the doctor ordered. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Yessir, you're number one this week! But no matter whether you're first or last, it's always good to hear from you. Have a super weekend, cowboy.

    1. Thanks. You're right. We can NEVER get too many smiles and chuckles. As for the ogling, yeah, doctors do say we need to exercise, right? (Good thinking!)

You have a wonderful weekend, too.

    1. I think the dog days have been especially hot for most of us this year. I read that July was the hottest month on record, and I have a feeling August will come close to setting a record, too.

      Stay cool! Hugs back atcha.

    1. Hi-ya, Hilary. I'm sure Joanne wouldn't mind sharing with you... she's very sweet like that. :) And hey! If they clean the pool, I'm sure Ray wouldn't mind a bit. Less work for him to do!

Cheers back atcha. Have a super weekend.

  5. It's not labour day over here; does that mean I have to work, or can I take the day off? Judging by the expressions on those dogs' faces, I think the world needs to know what you put in your brownies...

    1. Oh, sure, take the day off! (If your boss asks, I know nothing!)

HA! I'm afraid the most exotic ingredient in my brownies is nuts.

  6. All the dog funnies made me smile. one of those pool cleaner dudes looks like he's about to lose his shorts. He's better call his mum for some new elastic.

Oh dear. I must reeeeally be getting old. I didn't even notice the drooping shorts. I have a feeling the younger me would've picked right up on it!

  10. Oh boy, during this very, very hot summer, I can relate to that melting dog. This week brought us some relief, and we are enjoying it.

Thinking of you in Georgia and that monster storm being on track to hit Florida and not knowing which way it will turn. My granddaughter, who just started at FIT in Melbourne, is probably going to a friend’s home in GA. May you all be safe there.

    1. Me, too. It's seems like the older we get and the less tolerant of the heat we become, the higher the temperatures soar. Thank goodness for air conditioning!

That hurricane's a scary-looking one, isn't. I hope your granddaughter's safe. (Not a very nice welcome to Florida, is it?)

That hurricane sure is a scary-looking one. I hope it stays offshore and doesn't cause any harm in your area. Hunker down, girl! (And yes, I'd say cupcakes is a perfectly acceptable item for your survival preparations.)

  13. Good stuff, especially the first one. THe candles could be a viable product as a gag gift.

Labs are great, and they only take about five years to outgrow the puppy stage.

    1. You're right. I'd buy those candles. (For my friends, that is... I dunno if I'd appreciate their "unique" scent...)

Labs are terrific, and five years of puppyhood would be okay by me... heck, my hubby and I are still in the puppy stage. :)

  20. Some of these dogs remind me of the goings on in my house. The cake was the late Harper, who twice managed to eat the half of a freshly baked cake that he could reach. The farter is Franklin. He nearly drove Willy Dunne Wooters and me out of a room recently. Franklin and Penelope are the pre-rinse cycle. I have a Bosch dishwasher so if anything is on the plates, it gets caught in the filter and must be cleaned out. It's so much easier to let the dogs lick the plates. I do use the sanitize cycle.

    Love,
    Janie

  23. Autumn cool is creeping in here - we are dragging warm clothes out of storage and getting ready for hot chocolate :-) Loving the dog theme - our Dog is a big part of how our lives have shaped, and a big reason why we like drafty homes - those farts require hefty ventilation!

    1. Autumn is nowhere in sight here yet. Temperatures are still in the nineties, and I'm reeeeally looking forward to some cooler days.

HA! Yeah, dog flatulence is a good reason to welcome ventilation. :)

  24. Our 3-day turned into a 5-day because of the storm that thankfully looks like it isn't going to bother us much. These are really cute. Pavlov made me laugh, but my absolute favorite is the dog on the leash going to sleep, bwuahahahhahaha Have a wonderful day!

    1. Hopefully, Dorian will keep diminishing in power and doesn't cause much bother or damage in the states. Those poor people in the Bahamas, though. That must've felt like a nightmare to be pounded by the storm for so many hours.

I like the sleeping dog, too. If they don't wanta walk, they don't wanta walk!

You have a super, day, too.

It doesn't feel like it's EVER going to get cooler. I don't remember us having as many ninety-degree plus temperatures in a single year since we moved here. And the forecast? Shows more of the same... (And I DO hope the chill comes before January...)
